Celliers de Meknes is the country’s largest producer creating wines at all price points from five estates.

With over 50 years of vinegrowing and winemaking experience, Rene Zniber, the owner, is largely regarded as the founder of the renaissance of Moroccan wine. His passion and drive for quality is nowhere more apparent than at Château Roslane, the company’s flagship estate situated in Morocco’s only Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée region, AOC Coteaux d’Atlas. Château Roslane is immaculate throughout, from the neatly manicured gardens, fountains and riad, to the technologically advanced winery including an underground barrel cellar with a capacity for 3,000 barriques. A range of premium brands is also made at Château Roslane alongside the Château Roslane 1er Cru White and Red.

    Trois Domaines White
    AOG Gerrouane

    Grapes: Ugni Blanc, Clairette, Sauvignon

Pale green. Fresh apple and pear nose with light floral notes. Crisp palate. Pleasing primary aromas. A well-made, simple wine.

  • **

    Trois Domaines Rosé
    AOG Gerrouane

    Grapes: 50% Cincault, 50% Grenache

Medium red. Light nose. Gentle fresh berry style. Crisp palate. Correct. Generally berry-like but short and simple.

  • **½

    Trois Domaines Red

Grapes: Cincault, Grenache, Carignan, Alicante Bouchet

Medium red. Warmed leather and plum sweets on the nose. Simple but pleasant. Good weight on palate, not too reliant on sugar. Berry jam.

  • **

    Riad Jamil White

    Grapes: 100% Chardonnay

Light yellow. A little spritz. High acidity. Green peach characters. OK but lacking much of interest.

  • ***

    Riad Jamil Rosé

    Grapes: 100% Syrah

Pale purple. Serious on the nose, savoury aromas over berry. Chunky red-black fruits and meaty notes. Dry and fine. Good extract.

    Riad Jamil Red

    Grapes: 100% Carignan (40-year-old vines)

Medium red. Sweet fruit pastille nose, tobacco, tar and black cherry. Supple palate, balanced and surprisingly grippy. Not over hot. Still needs time, but already complex and interesting aromatically.

  • **½

    Ksar Rosé

    Grapes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Light reddish hue. Pronounced, sweet currant fruit. Pleasant. Some bubble gummy notes, cherry sweets. Fun and quaffable.

  • ***

    Ksar Red

Grapes: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah

Red purple hints. Berry fruits and sweet plum on the nose. Soft, quite fine on palate. Small-grain tannins. Plenty of character: plum, tobacco, sweet cherry and prune.

  • ***½

    Château Roslane Premier Cru White

    Grapes: 100% Chardonnay

Deep yellow to gold. Ripe vanilla nose over sweet peach and nectarine. Gentle musk. Soft buttery palate. Oak a little pronounced now. Mineral and greener fruit qualities. Should soften. Good.

  • ***½

    Château Roslane Premier Cru Red

    Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah

Intense nose: boiled plums, cassis and hints of oak smoke, chocolate and roast pepper. We got into a protracted conversation regarding wine and religion when I was about to make notes on the palate, and I forgot to put my thoughts down, or the glass for that matter. I remember it as being good though, probably around 17ish.
